Our stimulus proposal: The Small Business Tax Credit Act of 2009

According to CNN the U.S. lost 2.6 million jobs in 2008. Coincidentally there are, per the U.S. Census Bureau, 4.4 million small businesses with fewer than 20 employees in the U.S.  I think the math is straight forward and as such we propose The Small Business Tax Credit Act of 2009.

The federal government should offer each small business a tax credit, equal to the average salary in the U.S., if they hire one full time employee and keep them employed through the time that the company files their 2009 tax return.

Several news stories list the average salary in U.S as $39,026. Therefore the total “cost” of this program is just over $101 billion (given 2.6 million new hires). That number of course does not include the income and SSI taxes that the federal government would receive from these employees/employers for salaries earned in 2009. Some back of the napkin calculations will show that with an average tax rate of around 32% (includes SSI and Medicare taxes) the government would take in $32 billion in taxes. Therefore the ENTIRE program would “cost” the federal government only $68 billion.

The actual cost of the program could end up even less as each of the 2.6 million people hired would engage in business activities, such as purchasing gasoline to drive to work, that would generate federal tax revenue.  You can also include savings from the federal government not paying out welfare and other benefits to the unemployed.  At the end of the day anyone can see that this proposal clearly provides the U.S. economy with incentive to hire millions of new employees, or re-hire ones laid off, and yet costs us only a fraction compared to current stimulus packages.

I would ask that everyone that agrees with this idea to please contact their congressional representative and senator.

Hostages for Oil

Hostages for Oil.  Or "It's the economy stupid."

"Iranian Official: Sailors May Be Tried" reads the title of the latest update from Drudge.   You have to think to yourself - when is the last time that Iranian Islamofacsists took the time to put anyone on trial?  While pondering that thought you might start to realize that those British sailors might be in for a long stint on Iranian TV.

I read an OPEC stat that shows Iran produces about 4.047 million barrels of oil per day (link below).  The high price per barrel in 2006 was about $78/barrel.  That means the Iranian government could pull in around $9.7 billion per month in oil sales.  That is of course if they sold everything they produced.  But the price of oil fell off to around $50/barrel recently.

That means Ahmadinejad's monthly cashflow dropped by $3.5 billion dollars per month.   Ouch - I guess Ahmadinejad can't eat out as much.  Every penny counts when you're saving up for nuclear weapons.  Speaking of I noticed that Russia recently stopped production of Iran's nuclear sites due to lack of....drum roll please....money.  To make matters worse it seems that Condeleza rice has been successful in convincing banks not to finance projects in Iran.

Hmm - well I don't think it should take too many think tanks to figure out why some British sailors were taken by gunpoint.   Now what did that do to the price of oil?  Oh yes it jumped up by $10/barrel since they were captured.  $10/barrel x 4.047 million barrels per day = $40.4 millon dollars PER DAY increase in cash flow.  Very nice.   That will put another $1.5 billion per month in Ahmadinejad's checking account.

I'm not sure how lines of credit work on your line of business - but an extra $1.5 billion per month should keep the Russians burning the midnight oil in Nuclear plants around Tehran.
